ROOM MEASURING UP AND MAKING PLANS...BY HOMEZ DECO...

TRYING OUT LAYOUTS, MAKE TEMPLATES OF FURNITURE BY DRAWING TO SCALE THEIR BASIC SHAPES ON TO GRAPH PAPER, THEN CUTTING THEM OUT. PLAN AROUND WITH ARRANGEMENTS UNTIL YOU FIND ONE THAT WORKS. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO EVALUATE WHAT WILL SUCCESSFULLY FIT INTO THE ROOM, WITHOUT EITHER MOVING HEAVY FURNITURE OR MAKING AN EXPENSIVE MISTAKE.
MAKING THE 'FLOW' OF THE ROOM, THIS SHOWS HOW YOU AND GUESTS WALK AROUND THE ROOM, AND CAN HELP YOU VISUALIZE WHERE TO PLACE FURNITURE. FOR EXAMPLE, A ROOM WITH TWO SETS OF DOORS, WHILE IN A DINING ROOM THERE SHOULD BE ENOUGH SPACE FOR EVERYONE TO PUSH BACK THEIR CHAIRS AS THEY LEAVE THE TABLE.

MARKING THE 'SWEEP' OF DOORS YOU WILL NEED TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE SPACE THE DOORS TAKE UP AS THEY OPEN AND CLOSE TO AVOID PLACING FURNITURE IN THEIR WAY.

CHECK LIST:
YOU WILL NEED:
  • A4 squared graph paper
  • Retractable tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Eraser
